How does this medicine work

Cetuximab is a clear liquid that is injected into a vein. It works as follows:-

Cetuximab is a specialized antibody designed to target and bind to a protein called the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) in the body. By attaching to EGFR, cetuximab prevents the activation of certain enzymes associated with cell growth, leading to a slowdown in cell growth, increased cell death, and reduced production of vascular endothelial growth factor. Additionally, cetuximab prompts the internalization and breakdown of EGFR, further reducing its activity. However, it's important to note that mutations in the K-ras gene within tumor cells may impact cetuximab's effectiveness. Interestingly, cetuximab can also boost the effectiveness of radiation therapy by blocking EGFR signaling. This medication primarily works by halting cell cycle progression at the G1 phase.
