How does this medicine work
Busalfan is a clear liquid that is injected into a vein and also taken by mouth as tablet. It works as follows:-
Busulfan is a type of medication that affects cancer cells by changing their DNA. After it's absorbed into the body, it forms certain ions that attach to the DNA. This causes breaks in the DNA strands and links them together, which stops the cancer cells from making new DNA and RNA. The medication works against cancer cells regardless of which phase of the cell cycle they're in..

What is is useful for?
Primary uses are to treat Conditioning regimen prior to bone marrow transplant , Leukemia, chronic myelogenous.

What if you miss the dose?
Buslafan is also given by an injection please book a consultation with our Oncology Clinical Specialist to know about what happens if you miss the dose.
Busalfan is also available in tablet so :-
If you miss a dose of busulfan, take it as soon as you can if it is within 12 hours of the missed dose. If it is over 12 hours since your missed dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your usual dosing times.
If you vomit within 1 hour of taking a dose of busulfan, check with your doctor. You will be told whether to take the dose again or to wait until the next scheduled dose.

Will there be Side Effects

Tell us if you are taking other medicines like:-
Other drugs such as Acetaminophen , Itraconazole, Phenytoin and Thioguanine may interact with busulfan. Tell your doctor if you are taking any other drugs as your dose may need to be changed.

Safety Advice : Pregnancy, Liver or Kidney Damaged
Busulfan may damage sperm and may be harmful to the baby if used during pregnancy. It is best to use birth control while taking busulfan and for at least 4 months after you stop taking busulfan. Tell your doctor right away if you or your partner becomes pregnant. Do not breast feed during treatment.
Busulfan may cause sterility in men and menopause in women, which may be permanent. If you plan to have children, discuss this with your doctor before being treated with busulfan.
