How does this medicine work
Asciminib is a tablet taken by mouth that works as an inhibitor of a protein called BCR-ABL1. It specifically targets a part of the protein called the ABL myristoyl pocket (STAMP). Normally, this pocket is occupied by another part of the protein to keep it inactive. However, when BCR and ABL1 are fused together, this part is lost, leaving the ABL1 kinase active. Asciminib binds to this empty pocket and blocks the activity of the kinase, which helps stop the growth of tumor cells. It works against both the normal form of the protein and mutated versions, including the T315I mutation.
