How does this medicine work
Arsenic Trioxide is given by an injection which works as follows:-
Arsenic is a type of element that falls between metals and non-metals. It comes in various unstable chemical forms like oxides and sulfides, as well as compounds with sodium, calcium, and potassium. Arsenic trioxide is a specific form used in cancer treatment and is the most studied arsenic-based drug. Although its exact workings aren't fully understood, arsenic trioxide seems to act in multiple ways depending on the dose. At lower doses, it encourages some cells to partially mature, while at higher doses, it causes cell death through a process called apoptosis, which involves changes in cell structure and DNA. It also affects specific proteins involved in cancer growth and blocks the formation of new blood vessels that tumors need to grow. Additionally, arsenic trioxide can make cancer cells more sensitive to radiation therapy.
